BOSTON-GREENOCK-MOUNT VERNON LIONS CLUB was chartered on February 26, 1951, sponsored by the Grandview, Pittsburgh Club.  The first president was Dan Kelly, assisted by Secretary Jerry McCarthy and Treasurer Russ Eori.  Lions Cy Ehrhardt and Bernie Machesky have served the District as Deputy District Governors.

The first meeting of the Boston-Greenock-Mount Vernon Lions Club was called to order by our Charter President, Lion Dan Kelly, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 20, 1951.  From that moment the Club has been on the move.

It has proven itself many times to be alert and sensitive to the individual and corporate needs of our community.  The ability to raise funds were evident from the beginning, and over the years thousands of dollars have been dispensed.  Listed among the donees are Boy and Girl Scouts, McKeesport Hospital, local athletic teams, Pittsburgh Guild for the Blind, Beacon Lodge, Pittsburgh Blind Association, Eye Research, Leader Dogs, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, and hundreds of others.  If you entered Elizabeth Township from the Boston Bridge tonight, you were greeted and welcomed to our community by a sign placed there by this Club.

Since that first meeting at Marty’s Tavern our Club has met at a dozen places and consumed hundreds of meals, heard an untold number of speakers, and discussed dozens of important issues.  Even though many things have changed, one thing remains constant—outwill to Serve!  Fortunately we cannot conclude this brief history.  We pray it will continue for many generations.  We admonish those who follow to remember us as servants of our community.
